My blowpipe is removed at the end of every session to allow it and the bag to dry out properly. I use the Piper's Pal Reed Protector to keep the chanter reed moist, and one of these to protect the blowpipe flapper valve.

Must have to keep your reed in place in your chanter but safe from any collision. I make sure the hole is pierced at the top to let the humidity go out and avoid the reed to build mold.
